Showcasing the South West of Western Australia through Virtual Reality and immersive 360 video.

Outline

The project aims to create a VR application showcasing the Southwest  of Western Australia. At the moment we have very successfully showcased tourism in the region with 360 video through ASW, BVC and AMRTA using custom built interfaces that are used in visitor centres and at trade shows.

The creation of an app will open that content up to a much wider audience by publishing it to the global app stores for VR platforms.

The platform will showcase not only tourism attractions but will extend the existing content to primary industries, education and the arts.

Although built for VR the same interface and 360 content can be accessed through  the projects website and any HTML5 browser. Content could be integrated into partners websites

Multilingual versions will be produced and custom VR experiences suitable for VR parks in China, Korea and Japan could be developed.

Delivery Stages

Stage 1

3 degree of freedom VR experience utilising existing VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift Oculus go and 5vive.

This allows users to view 360 degree video content well rotating device with their head

Stage 2

Utilising the latest generation of VR headsets such as the Oculus Quest and the HP reverb.

This headsets features Inside-Out tracking that delivers six-degree-of-freedom 503 rotational and positional tracking in a stand alone unit.

Utilising this latest technology the user could move around above a map of the south west region and select points of interest to view 360 video with them be shown on the headset.

This would provide a more immersive experience when learning about the region…..

Stage 3

Using six-degree-of-freedom motion-controlled platforms in a virtual ride simulator visitors view footage of attractions such as surfing and mountain biking in the region while riding the motion simulator.

Footage of mountain biking and surfing and any other activity that can be used in the simulator would be motion tracked and the data from the motion in the video would be integrated into the simulator giving a realistic motion feedback to the visual imagery.

These rides could be used at trade shows. They could be set up as a South West Experience in parks in Southeast Asia and also the proposed VR park in Perth
